Hilary Duff insists it was inevitable Britney Spears would have a breakdown. The 19-year-old singer believes the Toxic star’s admittance to the Promises clinic in Malibu, California earlier this year was due to the unrelenting pressure she has faced since a young age.
She says, “I feel for her. I’ve met her a few times and she’s very sweet, hard-working and talented.
“Being Britney Spears must be difficult. She’s been told what to do since she was young. She’s not a bad mum - she’s a first-time mum, and because she’s famous, she’s expected never to make mistakes. The pressure she’s under would get to anyone. People need to leave her alone.”
But Duff is adamant she won’t suffer the same fate: “I’m not going to stop doing what I love because I’m afraid of breaking down. But I’ve seen how easily it happens.
“My sister, Haylie, and I used to live in this apartment complex with lots of young Hollywood stars. I watched lots of famous people earning too much and getting into trouble. I saw people lose everything. Thankfully, I haven’t fallen into that trap.”

The feud between Lindsay Lohan and Hilary Duff is over.
Duff says she ended all the “weird weirdness” between them. “Lindsay and I were out at the same place, and we were like, ‘Let’s get this out of the way.’ And she was really nice, and I was really nice,” the “Lizzie McGuire” star told Canada’s Globe and Mail. The singer/actress says the whole thing reminds her of her high school years when she was shooting the television series and friends would share their “intense” dramas. “They’d say, ‘Oh my god, you’ll never believe what this guy did,’ and I’d be like, ‘Hmm, we just shot an episode about that last week.’ But it’s nice to be able to see Lindsay out and say hi, and not have this weird weirdness.”

A bespangled Hilary Duff was spotted on the set of her new music video “Stranger,” dressed like a snake charmer. (Insert your “she can charm my snake anytime” joke here.)
Miss Duff, 19, has three pictures lined up, with the first one out the gate being “War, Inc.,” an action/comedy thriller with the Cusacks, John and Joan.

Hilary Duff is again making her way to the small screen. The actress/singer who was once the world’s most famous tween will have her own reality show on MTV. Titled This Is Now, the show airs Monday nights at 9:30 and features Hilary living her normal, whirlwind life as she tours with her new album Dignity and lives the life as one of Hollywood’s hip. The singer’s security staff had a scare recently while she was doing promotion for the album. During an interview, a man in the crowd made loud, verbal threats to kill Duff. The man was subsequently tackled and taken down by security, and Duff continued with her regularly-scheduled meet and greets, proving that Dignity is an apt title for her album. Fans who have been dying to get a peek at Duff’s inner world have only to tune to MTV to see her in her element.
Despite a recent break up with Good Charlotte’s Joel Madden (who is now the boytoy of reality star Nicole Richie), Hillary Duff is moving forward with her album promotion and baring it all on MTV. The cable channel geared to teens and twenty-somethings made just the right decision in adding Duff to their reality line-up – as Duff grows older, so do her formerly tween fans, and the singer’s appeal is only growing as her audience widens. Two episodes of This Is Now have aired so far, with several more scheduled on future line-ups.
While Hilary Duff is known for more than her good-girl image (a public cat fight with Lindsay Lohan for the affections of Nick Carter changed Duff’s goody-two-shoes appeal), fans will still see that she has a lot of Dignity by virtue of the new MTV gig. With her hair dyed a charming shade of brown, Duff’s primary focus right now is on her musical career, not her acting one. It all adds up to a perfect mix for reality TV – or, at least, that’s what MTV is banking on. Will Duff succeed where other pop princesses (like Jessica Simpson) have failed? Only the ratings for This Is Now will tell the tale.

While Hilary Duff may be a refreshing breath of sanity in comparison with the likes of Britney Spears and Lindsay Lohan, the young singer/actress sure attracts some crazies.
Duff was being interviewed by Leah Miller and promoting her new Dignity album at MuchMusic on Tuesday when an unidentified man in the large crowd gathered outside the studio allegedly started yelling death threats at the 19-year-old. A witness reported that several police officers then tackled the guy.
“The cops slammed his face into the pavement,” photographer Todd Gillis said in a CanWest News Service article. “He was bleeding.”
A police spokesperson said there was no report of an arrest being made.

Hilary Duff says she is obsessed with interior design and is constantly rearranging and redesigning things at the home she shares with sister Haylie Duff in Los Angeles.
Hilary told OK magazine recently: “I love interior decorating so much. I’m a total OCD freak about it too.”
“I rearrange things all the time, and Haylie’s like, ‘Oh, that’s pretty!’ But She has her part of the house and I have my part of the house.”

The ‘Cheaper By The Dozen’ actress recently splashed out the enormous sum on an extravagant Jacob and Co. time piece, but admits she is embarrassed about her lavish purchase.
She said: “I think my Jacob watch is the most expensive thing I have ever bought. I think it was, like, $90,000. It’s really bad!
“I hate that I have that watch now. I want to get rid of it, I never wear it.”
Duff - whose ex-boyfriend is Good Charlotte front man Joel Madden - admits she has a penchant for expensive jewelry.
However, the 19-year-old actress-and-singer insists she doesn’t like to flaunt her wealth like other celebrities.
She explained to TV Hits! magazine: “I spend a lot of money on jewelry, I like diamonds. I buy shoes all the time as well and they can be expensive. I love coats too.
“I have a house and two cars but I don’t really buy things like that. I see people who constantly change their cars and constantly want the newest stuff, but I’m not interested.”

While Hilary Duff’s career as a pop diva skyrocketed - she released two platinum albums and a best-selling greatest-hits disc in just three years - the former Disney child star found her acting career stalling. Hollywood had difficulty seeing Duff beyond her past sugary sweet roles and good-girl, no-rehab persona.
“It always shocks me the lack of openness, the lack of imagination that some casting directors have,” Duff, 19, says. “I would read a script and be so in love with that, and someone would be like, ‘Hilary Duff? Oh no, we don’t want her for that.’ ”
As bad scripts and rejections kept coming, Duff decided to put 100 percent into her music career.
“Dignity,” released last week, is a club-oriented record filled with pulsating grooves, but it also tackles some of the more serious issues she’s faced since her last record, including a breakup with Good Charlotte’s Joel Madden and her parents’ split.
“Every experience that I had for the last two years, they were certain things that made me want to write about in song,” says Duff, who co-wrote all but one song. “It’s a new side of me and part of me. All the songs are so self-explanatory. It was very liberating - writing it is like a therapy session.”
“She was very honest about where she was in her life, and very open, which made it very easy to collaborate,” says producer Kara DioGuardi. “I think she’s really become an adult on this record. She’s a young adult, in the way that she feels, in the way that she acts, in the way that she interprets what she’s singing about.”

Hilary Duff marks another career milestone this week, by taking the highest selling debut on this week’s Nielsen’s Soundscan chart. Dignity marks the first album Hilary Duff wrote, a new musical style and a more mature look. The album was released April 3 on Disney’s Hollywood Records.
Bob Cavallo, Chairman of Disney’s Hollywood Records, commented, “Hilary delivered on this record. It reflects her growth as a career artist. She worked tirelessly with the whole Hollywood Records staff to market this record, and today’s chart debut is a testament to that.”

Just weeks after Joel Madden and Hilary Duff, 19, broke up last November, the Good Charlotte front man began dating famously skinny socialite Nicole Richie. Then the Material Girls actress had to watch as the romance blossomed on the pages of celebrity magazines.
And did we mention that she also had a stalker?
In the May issue of CosmoGIRL, Duff opens up about her struggles with her weight, her newfound confidence, and what it was like creating her new album, Dignity, while working through the heartbreak. Interview highlights below:
On her breakup with Joel:
“Joel was my boyfriend for two years and I loved him–he was a very important part of my life. All that stuff about the age difference between us being the reason we broke up is just not true; I never felt the age difference. Breaking up was just something that I felt needed to happen between us. People thought we were an unlikely couple, but we really weren’t that different. After two months, I didn’t even see his tattoos anymore, because that’s not who he is. He used to say, ‘I don’t think there are too many people out there who really get you, but I do.’ And he did. I could be stupid, silly, funny, or crazy, and he got it. He gave me a sense of confidence and independence I didn’t have before. We e-mail all the time now and are at a really good place.”
On getting slim:
“I have the same insecurities about my body that every girl has and I made a conscious choice to get in shape. I’ve always been a junk food eater, but I started paying more attention to what I put in my body and cut out foods like pizza, chicken fingers, and French fries. If I knew I’d want dessert one night, I wouldn’t have bread that day. If I wanted to eat bread, I wouldn’t have dessert. Seeing how well it worked motivated me to keep going, but I hit a period when I got too skinny. I wasn’t too obsessed with it, but I did learn that there have to be days when you just don’t think about it.’”
On her new album, Dignity:
“It’s interesting — half the record was written when I was in a relationship with Joel, and the other half was written after we’d broken up. So together, the album is just really personal. So many of the songs are about things my family has gone through. I was scared to write about that stuff at first, but then I thought, Why try to make it seem like I have a perfect life when I don’t?”
