Since they split in November, Hilary Duff and Joel Madden hadn’t run into each other – until now.

“I just did TRL today and Joel was there, and it was the first time we’d seen each other and it was so, like, nerve-racking,” Duff, 19, told People Monday at the 18th annual GLAAD Media Awards in New York City. “I knew that he was going to be there and he knew. It is what it is.”

But Duff, who dated Madden, 28, for nearly two and a half years, was realistic about the situation. “I mean, what am I going to do?” she said. “It’s life.”

Since their breakup, Madden has been dating Nicole Richie, 25, and Duff has been single (something she’s called “kind of exciting”). Still, Duff told Ryan Seacrest in January that she and her ex keep in touch and have “a great relationship.”

So was their run-in awkward? “It was a little strange at first, but I wish nothing but good for him and I know that he wishes the same for me,” Duff told People. “I’m happy and he’s happy and I think that’s all that counts.”

Hilary Duff is headed Down Under to star opposite upcoming actor Liam Aiken for the flick “The Emancipation of Jonny“.

The movie focuses on the life of a teenager who is stuck at a crucial point in his life, where he has to strike a balance between his dreams and reality.

Based on the true-life of 16 year-old director, Jonathan Nguyen,

Jonathan Tyler (Aiken) struggles to live an ideal teenage life as he tries to juggle between his own desires and his parent’s expectations.

Hilary plays Piki Little,an 18 year old tourist from New Zealand. After a few meetings between the two,they realise that they share the same dreams and so, decide to journey together on and fulfil them.

The movie is set to herald a huge improvement in Duff’s growth as far as her acting is concerned.

“The film is a heart-felt, emotional drama; one in which will be Hilary Duff’s most engaging yet - her metamorphosis from amateur to ‘Golden Globe nominated’ worthy actress, ” a source was quoted by Moviehole, as saying.

The film is in pre production and shooting will commence in Australia in late 2007.

Hilary Duff has admitted “it wasn’t fun” seeing ex-boyfriend Joel Madden dating skinny socialite Nicole Richie.

Duff, who split from long-term partner last year, has penned tracks about the love triangle on her latest album Dignity.

Duff, 19, says, “Last year was really difficult. It’s not fun seeing your ex with someone else.”

Duff says she titled the album Dignity because she felt dignity is something “you have to work on having … The album is so personal and talks about so many experiences I’ve had, good ones and bad ones, and dignity is something I always hope to have and strive to have.”

Hilary Duff has laughed off rumors two songs on her new album are about Nicole Richie, who is dating Duff’s ex boyfriend Joel Madden.

The teen star insists she has no bitterness towards Richie - and that the songs are actually about her mother and father.

Duff says, “I’ve read that Gypsy Woman and Stranger are about Nicole but they’re not - they are about my parents.

“I want Joel to be happy, and if she makes him happy…

“Obviously he’s going to find someone else, like I’m going to do.”

Hilary Duff has admitted that she enjoyed being more involved in songwriting for her new album.

The 19-year-old teamed up with professional songwriter Kara DioGuardi when working on Dignity, which has a new dance/pop sound and focuses on Duff’s former relationship with Good Charlotte’s Joel Madden.

“I knew I couldn’t do it myself, but working with Kara allowed me to talk about things on my mind,” Duff told Billboard. “It was one big therapy session.

“People don’t know a lot about my life, but these songs are self-explanatory. It was crazy to be in the midst of a loving relationship, then not knowing why you’re still there, then not being in it. I cover these emotions and the feeling of being in the dark.

“It’s so different from my other albums, which were pop/rock. I didn’t necessarily plan the album to sound like this, but it was so easy to write to.”

When Hilary Duff lost a noticeable amount of weight two years ago, she chalked it up to healthier eating habits.

But now, the singer-actress, 19, admits she felt pressure from the media to get thin.

“I did get skinny,” she tells Britain’s Mail on Sunday. “I’ve felt that pressure like everyone else in my position. When a newspaper comes out that says ‘Duff Puff – she must have gained 15 pounds’ or something like that, how would any normal person react?”

She continues, “It’s so mean, but everyone keeps buying that stuff and talking about it, so it’s not going to go away.”

Duff, whose 2½-year relationship with rocker Joel Madden ended in November, tells the magazine: “I felt like we were great together, and being on my own is great too.”

After a trip to Europe to promote her new album Dignity, Duff is now back home with her sister Haylie, 22.

The two live together in Los Angeles in a house they shared until recently with their mom, Susan – who just moved down the street, much to her daughter’s chagrin.

“It was her idea,” Duff says. “She said, ‘I want to give you guys more freedom,’ and I’m like, ‘I don’t want that. I want you here.’ So I call her every day and I still always consult her before any big decision.”

Duff ended her longterm relationship with Good Charlotte rocker Joel Madden last year, and insists she’s too busy learning about herself to look for another man. The 19-year-old says, “The last thing I want right now is to be in a relationship. When you’re in a relationship you make decisions based on what’s good for both you and someone else. So now it’s nice to make decisions based on what I want - it’s empowering.”

Hilary Duff is uncertain about soccer star David Beckham’s sex appeal saying that he is too old for her.

Duff recently separated from her 28-year-old boyfriend Joel Madden of the rock band Good Charlotte. She was so hurt from the split that she says she will not date any older men in the future, even if Beckham, who is 31, is available, reports contactmusic.com.

She said: ‘He’s attractive but I’m over all that now. He’s far too old for me.’
